  1. Kindly brief us about the outset of your career.

I began my career at Cognizant in 2008, working on critical data engineering projects for MetLife’s broker-dealer business. Over the past 17 years, I’ve progressively taken on more challenging roles across major financial institutions. After successful tenures at Sentry Insurance and Cognizant, I joined Northwestern Mutual in 2018, where I currently serve as Assistant Director of Software Engineering, leading the development of the Enterprise Analytics Platform.

  1. As a successful leader, which three personal qualities do you believe contributed most to your success?

Three personal qualities have been instrumental to my success. First, I embrace continuous learning and adaptation, which has helped me stay current with emerging technologies like Cloud and AI. Second, being a good listener has been crucial – actively listening to consumers helps me truly understand their needs and problems, enabling me to derive the right solutions. Third, being fearless about failure has been essential – this mindset has helped me learn from mistakes and ultimately deliver higher-quality solutions.

  1. What are the aims and ideals that guide you as an individual and a professional?

My professional philosophy centers on driving innovation while maintaining practical value. I believe in leveraging technology to solve real business challenges and creating solutions that make a meaningful impact. I’m also passionate about mentoring and developing talent within the technology community, contributing to technical publications, and participating in industry events to share knowledge and experiences.

  1. What are the primary offerings of your company?

At Northwestern Mutual, I lead the Enterprise Analytics Platform development on AWS cloud. Our platform serves as the backbone for data-driven decision-making across the enterprise, enabling advanced analytics and machine learning capabilities. This infrastructure supports Northwestern Mutual’s position as the second-largest life insurance company in the United States, helping serve millions of clients effectively.

  1. What have been the toughest obstacles you’ve faced in your career?

One of the significant challenges in my career has been managing the transition from traditional on-premise systems to cloud infrastructure while ensuring data security and maintaining business continuity. Leading large-scale modernization projects required careful planning, stakeholder management, and innovative problem-solving approaches. Another challenge has been optimizing cloud costs while scaling operations, which demanded strategic thinking and implementation of best practices.

  1. Mention some of the notable recognitions and accreditations received by your organization and yourself.

I’ve received several notable recognitions, including Fellow membership in the British Computer Society (BCS), Senior membership in IEEE, and the Bronze Globee Award for IT Project Leader of the Year. I’ve published papers in prestigious conferences like IEEE SoutheastCon and serve as a judge for various industry awards including the Banking Tech Awards USA and Globee Cybersecurity Awards.

  1. Do you have a mantra that you live by?

My guiding principle stems from the understanding that Information Technology is, at its core, a knowledge-driven industry. Success in software engineering demands more than just technical skills – it requires a commitment to continuously expanding one’s knowledge base, staying current with technological innovations, and effectively applying these insights to solve real-world challenges. Throughout my career, I’ve lived by this philosophy of perpetual learning and practical application. By consistently sharpening my expertise in emerging technologies and industry advancements, I’ve been able to tackle complex problems and deliver effective solutions in our rapidly evolving technological landscape. This dedication to knowledge enhancement and its practical implementation has not only guided my personal growth but has also enabled me to lead teams in delivering innovative solutions to complex business challenges.
